Integrate WhatsApp with AI agentson Meta's official API
Vantegrate's AI agents run on the official WhatsApp Business Platform and work on your CRM through the API: they answer every conversation in real time, read live data from Salesforce or HubSpot and log the outcome there. No unofficial workarounds and no automations that put the account at risk of a ban.
How the data flows
What does it mean to integrate WhatsApp with Vantegrate's AI agents?
Integrating WhatsApp with Vantegrate's AI agents means connecting three pieces: the WhatsApp Business Platform as Meta's official channel, an AI agent that talks with each contact, and your CRM, where every interaction is logged in real time. Depending on the use case, the agent answers, qualifies, quotes or wins back customers, and leaves structured data in your system, without waiting for office hours.
That is different from a tool hooked to WhatsApp through unofficial means, which puts the account at risk of a ban. Here the agent runs on the official API, follows Meta's rules (opt-in, approved templates, opt-out) and works from the live data in your CRM, whether that is Salesforce, HubSpot or another system. The WhatsApp Business Platform is the native channel of the entire Vantegrate suite.

What moves between WhatsApp and your CRM
The agent uses the WhatsApp Business Platform as its channel and your CRM as the source of truth: it reads live data to answer and writes the outcome of every conversation back to your system.
Complete conversations
Every WhatsApp chat is logged with its summary and attribution, so nothing is lost outside the CRM: not an inquiry, not a lead, not an order.
Data in both directions
The agent checks your CRM to answer with real data (price, stock, order status) and writes the result back: a qualified lead, an opportunity, a resolved case.
Consent and opt-out
The contact's opt-in and every opt-out are recorded: the basis of messaging that complies with WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy.
How the integration works, step by step
Vantegrate handles the API setup and the CRM connection. Your team operates the channel and signs off.
WhatsApp Business Platform account
We set up your number on Meta's official WhatsApp Business Platform, with your business identity verified.
CRM connection
We connect the agent to your CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot, Oracle or another) so it reads live data and logs every conversation.
Templates and entry points
We define the templates Meta approves and the entry points: click-to-WhatsApp ads, QR codes or the button on your website.
Agent goes live
The agent starts working: it answers in real time, around the clock, and logs everything in your system.
Why the official API and not a generic automation tool
There are two ways to connect WhatsApp to an automation. Unofficial automation tools hook into WhatsApp through means Meta does not authorize: they work until the account gets banned, and they neither scale nor offer guarantees. The WhatsApp Business Platform is the official channel: stable, with a verified business identity and clear rules. Why numbers get banned, and what to do if it already happened, is in how to keep your WhatsApp number from being blocked.
Running on the official API also keeps compliance in order: the contact starts the conversation or gives opt-in, templates are approved before they're used and opt-out is always honored. Inbound qualification (the customer writes first) is the cleanest scenario, because consent arrives with the first message. We cover it in WhatsApp lead qualification.
Meta charges per delivered message: rates vary by the recipient's country and the category (marketing, utility, authentication, service), and Meta updates them regularly. Replies to a customer who wrote first are service messages: each number gets 1,000 free per month, and after that they are billed at the market's rate. The details are in our guide to WhatsApp Business API cost.
WhatsApp with US customers: what's different
In the US, WhatsApp is big but not universal: 32% of adults use it, according to the Pew Research Center (2025), and 56% of Hispanic adults do (Pew). It performs best with Hispanic customers, with buyers and partners in Latin America and in international B2B sales; for the rest of your audience, plan on other channels alongside it.
Four points from Meta shape how you use the channel in the US:
- Marketing to +1 numbers: Meta does not deliver marketing templates to US numbers, according to its developer documentation. Utility and authentication templates and replies within the customer service window still work (Sinch); a promotional campaign to US numbers needs another channel, such as SMS or RCS through Twilio.
- 72 hours free: when a customer writes from a click-to-WhatsApp ad, the messages you send over the following 72 hours are not charged, according to the WhatsApp Business pricing page.
- Business Agent: Meta's own AI agent answers questions, recommends catalog products, books appointments and qualifies leads on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, and you can start with it for free (WhatsApp Business).
- General-purpose chatbots: Meta's terms prohibit offering general-purpose AI assistants as the main function; agents with a business task, such as answering customers, selling or tracking an order, are still allowed (respond.io).
Compared with Meta's agent: Vantegrate's agent works on your CRM and ERP data (price lists, stock and orders), logs every conversation in your system and hands off to a sales rep with the full context. The criterion-by-criterion comparison is in Meta Business Agent or a custom AI agent.

An agent connected to your WhatsApp vs. a standalone tool
| Standalone AI tool | Agent connected to your WhatsApp | |
|---|---|---|
| Data source | A copy that drifts | Your source of truth, live |
| Where your data lives | In a third-party system | In your environment, encrypted end to end |
| Result of each operation | Stuck in another app | Written back to your WhatsApp |
| Permissions and audit | Broad and hard to audit | Least-privilege scope and an audit trail |
| Reaching production | Often stalls as a pilot | Validated, phased rollout |

Of generative AI pilots never reach production with measurable business impact
Pew counts adults who use WhatsApp at all, so read it as reach, not as business use. Meta updates its rates by market and category, and it doesn't deliver marketing templates to US numbers at any price: check the current rate in Meta's documentation before you budget. Click-to-message ads open chats on WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram, so that growth covers all three. The MIT NANDA figure reflects the gap between piloting AI and running it in production.

Frequently asked questions about the WhatsApp integration
What teams usually ask before putting an AI agent on WhatsApp.
How do I integrate WhatsApp with an AI agent?
How do I integrate WhatsApp with an AI agent?
With the official WhatsApp Business Platform as the channel and your CRM as the destination: the agent answers each conversation, reads live data from your system to reply and logs the outcome (lead, opportunity, case). Vantegrate sets up your number on the official API and connects it to your CRM; your team operates the channel and signs off. WhatsApp is the native channel of the whole Vantegrate suite. The CRM-specific details are in WhatsApp and Salesforce integration and WhatsApp and HubSpot integration.
Why use the WhatsApp Business API instead of an automation tool?
Why use the WhatsApp Business API instead of an automation tool?
Because unofficial automation tools put the account at risk of a ban: they hook into WhatsApp through means Meta doesn't authorize. The WhatsApp Business API is the official channel, stable and with a verified business identity, and it keeps compliance in order (opt-in, approved templates, opt-out). It's the foundation Vantegrate's agents run on. If your team answers from the WhatsApp Business app, see migrating from WhatsApp Business to the official API.
How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost?
How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost?
Meta charges per delivered message, with rates that vary by the recipient's country and the category (marketing, utility, authentication, service). For a US number, a utility or service message is billed at $0.0034 on Meta's rate card, and each number gets 1,000 free service messages per month. Rates change often: the details and caveats are in our guide to WhatsApp Business API cost.
Can I send WhatsApp marketing campaigns to US numbers?
Can I send WhatsApp marketing campaigns to US numbers?
Not with marketing templates: Meta doesn't deliver them to US (+1) numbers, according to its developer documentation. Utility and authentication templates, replies within the customer service window and conversations that start from a click-to-WhatsApp ad still work, and messages in that ad window aren't charged for 72 hours. The limit follows the recipient's number, so customers with numbers outside the US, such as your buyers in Mexico, can still receive marketing templates within Meta's per-user limits. For a campaign to US numbers you need another channel, such as SMS or RCS through Twilio.
Does Meta allow AI agents on WhatsApp?
Does Meta allow AI agents on WhatsApp?
Yes, when the agent has a business task. Meta's terms for the WhatsApp Business Platform prohibit offering a general-purpose AI assistant as the main function, while bots built for support, bookings, order tracking or sales remain allowed (respond.io). Each Vantegrate agent is built for one business job (selling, re-engaging customers, processing documents or answering questions about your data) and works on your own systems, not as an open-ended assistant.
Where are conversations logged?
Where are conversations logged?
In your CRM: even though the channel is Meta's official API, your system remains the source of truth. Every conversation is logged on the matching record with its summary and campaign attribution, so the data isn't trapped in a separate messaging tool and your team works from complete information.
What happens if a customer asks to talk to a person?
What happens if a customer asks to talk to a person?
The agent hands off to a person and passes along the conversation with the context already gathered, so the sales rep doesn't start by asking what the customer already answered. You define the handoff rules with us: an explicit request from the customer, the type of inquiry or business hours. More in handing off to a sales rep.
Who owns the number, and what happens if we stop working together?
Who owns the number, and what happens if we stop working together?
The number and the WhatsApp Business account are yours, not Vantegrate's. If you stop working with us, the agent's access is revoked and your team keeps running the channel. The conversation history stays where you were already logging it: your CRM.
