Integrate Five9 with AI agentsso a dropped call continues by text
Vantegrate's AI agents work on your Salesforce org and connect to your Five9 domain through its official APIs and event service: when a customer hangs up in queue or in the IVR, the agent follows up by SMS or WhatsApp with Salesforce context, and if the customer would rather get a call, it books the callback in a Five9 campaign. Calls stay in Five9; records stay in your Salesforce.
How the data flows
What does it mean to integrate Five9 with Vantegrate's AI agents?
Integrating Five9 with Vantegrate's AI agents means a dropped call doesn't end the sale. Five9's event service flags every customer who hangs up in queue or in the IVR; the agent looks the number up in Salesforce and follows up by SMS or WhatsApp: it answers, quotes from your price lists and logs the outcome in the CRM.
Five9 already includes native SMS and WhatsApp, its own voice AI agents and its own Salesforce integration. Vantegrate's agent covers a different stretch, the sale that continues by text, and when the customer wants to talk to a person, it places the callback on a Five9 list so your team makes the call, with a summary of the conversation.

What moves between Five9, the agent and your Salesforce
Five9 pushes its events by webhook as they happen, and the agent queries its API only when it needs a data point.
Hang-ups in queue or in the IVR
With Five9's Event Subscription Service, a subscription flags when an interaction is abandoned or when the customer disconnects while waiting in queue or in the IVR. Five9 doesn't guarantee event order and may deliver duplicates, so the agent filters them out before it texts anyone.
SMS and WhatsApp under Five9's rules
Five9 offers native SMS with 10DLC registration and native WhatsApp as a Meta Business Solution Provider. During discovery we decide which number the agent texts from, a Five9 number or a dedicated sales number, so no customer gets two replies.
Callbacks, booked for you
If the customer would rather talk to someone, the agent uses Web2Campaign to add them to your callback campaign's list, with the summary in a contact field and, if they picked a time, a request for the campaign to call at that time.
How the integration works, step by step
Vantegrate sets up the connection and turns it on in phases; your team authorizes the permissions and validates.
API-only user
Your admin creates an API-only user in Five9: it can't log in to Five9's applications, and its permissions limit which APIs the integration uses (configuration, Web2Campaign or statistics). If your domain doesn't have that user type yet, your Five9 account team enables it on request.
Event subscription
With the event service license, your admin creates a subscription in the Five9 Admin Console to the interaction events that matter (abandoned, disconnected in queue, dispositioned) and points it at the agent's endpoint. Depending on the error the endpoint returns, Five9 retries up to three times.
Business rules and channels
We decide which dropped calls the agent follows up on, during which hours, on which channel and from which number, which Salesforce data it uses and when it books a callback in your campaign.
Validation with real calls
We test with a test campaign and our own number, validate with your service and sales teams, and roll out in phases.
When a customer hangs up in queue, the sale continues by text
A customer who hangs up while waiting in your Five9 queue or IVR usually ends up as one more number in the abandonment report. With the integration, Five9 flags the hang-up by webhook and the agent texts with Salesforce context: it knows who the customer is, what they were quoted and which order is open. Timing matters: a study of 1.25 million inquiries received online, published in Harvard Business Review, found that trying to make contact within the first hour made it nearly seven times as likely to qualify the lead as trying even an hour later.
Five9 already covers part of this with its own tools: its documentation shows how to add the numbers of calls that drop in the IVR to a list, so an outbound campaign calls them back (Five9). The agent adds what happens by text: the customer who doesn't want to wait for another call gets the answer, the quote and a payment link by SMS or WhatsApp, and the outcome lands in Salesforce.
And the other way around: when the chat needs a voice, the agent books the callback in your Five9 campaign with a summary of the conversation, and your team makes the call from Five9. See how that step is built in AI agent to human handoff.
| Dimension | Queue and texting apart | Five9 with the agent |
|---|---|---|
| Abandoned call | A number in the abandonment report | Webhook alert and a text with context |
| Context | The customer explains everything again | Salesforce and the interaction data |
| Record | Call in Five9, chat somewhere else | Every conversation on the customer record in Salesforce |
| Handoff to a person | Forwarding details by email | A callback in your Five9 campaign |
The exact events, channels and rules are defined with your team.
Each channel keeps its rules: starting a WhatsApp conversation takes a Meta-approved template and the customer's opt-in. Texting US numbers from Five9 takes a registered 10DLC brand and campaign and consent under the TCPA, and once a customer replies STOP, Five9 won't let you text them on that campaign until they opt back in. The details are below and on the SMS integration page.
How the agent works alongside Five9's AI and its Salesforce integration
Five9 has its own voice AI agents, which resolve requests end to end and, when a person is needed, pass the conversation on with full context (Five9). It also offers AI Agent Assist, which guides your team during the call, and automated summaries. Vantegrate's agent doesn't compete with those pieces: it works the sale that continues by text, with your prices, inventory and Salesforce data.
For Salesforce, Five9 offers its adapter and Five9 Fusion for Salesforce, an integration built on Service Cloud Voice: recordings and call data land in Salesforce, and a Five9 Voice AI Agent's summary goes into the voice call record (Five9). Salesforce has announced the retirement of Open CTI, the framework behind Five9's classic adapter (Salesforce): during discovery we check which one you run and agree on what each piece logs, so no activity is duplicated.
If your team handles WhatsApp in Five9, the native integration sends Meta-approved templates (Five9) from numbers in your Five9 inventory (Five9). To bring a conversation from your own channel into Five9's routing for your team to pick up, Five9 documents Open Messaging, an API for adding channels Five9 doesn't support natively, licensed and billed by usage (Five9); whether it fits is decided during discovery.
| Five9 piece | What it does | What the agent adds |
|---|---|---|
| Voice AI Agents | Resolve calls and hand off with context | The sale by text, with your Salesforce data |
| Fusion for Salesforce | Voice, recordings and summaries inside Salesforce | We agree on what each one logs |
| Native SMS and WhatsApp | Channels in your contact center | Follows up and quotes by text |
| Open Messaging | Brings external channels into Five9 routing | A path we evaluate during discovery |
Based on Five9 documentation; availability depends on your license and your domain.
Five9 is a third-party product: Vantegrate integrates through its official APIs, and everything already working in your domain stays as it is.
Texting US customers from Five9: 10DLC, TCPA and opt-outs
For US recipients, SMS is the default follow-up channel, and Five9 is direct about the rule: register your 10DLC numbers to avoid fines and blocked messages (Five9). You register in the Five9 Admin Console, first the brand and then a 10DLC campaign; toll-free numbers go through a separate verification, and Five9 recommends registering them if you expect to send 5,000 or more messages. Every new 10DLC campaign is vetted through Bandwidth's aggregator against the carriers' codes of conduct, and the description and sample messages have to match the use case and the opt-in wording customers saw (Five9), which is why abandoned-call follow-up gets its own use case.
Consent follows the TCPA: marketing texts sent with automated systems require prior express written consent (47 CFR 64.1200), and Five9's own guidance adds that entering a mobile number doesn't necessarily count as a compliant opt-in (Five9). Opt-outs carry the most risk for an AI agent: the FCC rule counts seven keywords and any other reply a reasonable person would read as an opt-out, and the FCC has adopted an order that, once in effect, lets senders designate an exclusive opt-out method (Day Pitney). Until then, and in any case, the agent is designed to treat those phrases as opt-outs.
On the Five9 side, STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE and CANCEL are handled by default, and once a customer opts out, no more texts go out on that campaign until they opt back in by texting the number (Five9). Quiet hours and TCPA damages are covered on the SMS integration page.
Your brand, your campaigns: you register the brand and each 10DLC campaign in your Five9 Admin Console, and before the first text we agree with your team which use case each message belongs to and which opt-in wording covers it.

AI comes to your data, not your data to the AI: the agent reads only what it needs from Five9 and logs the outcome in Salesforce. Five9 publishes its own certifications: ISO 27001, a SOC 2 Type 2 report and an annual assessment as a PCI DSS Level 1 service provider (Five9 security).
- Access through a dedicated Five9 user: no access to Five9's applications, and permissions that limit which APIs the integration uses.
- Callbacks come in through Web2Campaign with authentication turned on, as Five9 recommends: without it, anyone who knows your domain and the list name could add numbers to dial (Five9).
- Calls, recordings and messages stay in your Five9 domain; every action the agent takes is logged in Salesforce.
- The agents run on Salesforce or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, whose SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certifications belong to those platforms, not to Vantegrate; Five9's belong to Five9.
Frequently asked questions about the Five9 integration
What sales, service and IT teams ask before connecting an AI agent to Five9.
How do I integrate Five9 with an AI agent?
How do I integrate Five9 with an AI agent?
With an API-only user in your Five9 domain and a subscription to Five9's event service, which requires a Five9 license and tells the agent by webhook when a call is abandoned or ends. The agent follows up by SMS or WhatsApp with the customer's Salesforce context and, if the customer wants to talk to someone, uses Web2Campaign to add them to your callback campaign's list. Vantegrate sets up the connection; your team authorizes and validates. Meet the sales agent at Sellium.
Does the agent replace Five9's AI agents?
Does the agent replace Five9's AI agents?
No. Five9's voice AI agents answer and resolve calls, and AI Agent Assist guides your team during the call. Vantegrate's agent works the sale that continues by text: it answers, qualifies, quotes with your Salesforce data and logs the outcome. During discovery we define who handles each case and what each piece logs in Salesforce, so no customer gets two replies.
Can the agent text from our Five9 numbers?
Can the agent text from our Five9 numbers?
Five9 has native SMS, with 10DLC registration done in its Admin Console, and native WhatsApp, with numbers from its inventory and Meta-approved templates. Its SMS API expects the number to be on the opt-in list before sending, and once a customer replies STOP, you can't text them on that campaign until they opt back in (Five9). Whether the agent texts from your Five9 numbers or from a dedicated sales number is decided during discovery. More on the SMS integration page.
What can Metrix answer about our contact center?
What can Metrix answer about our contact center?
Using Five9's reports, which run through its configuration API, Metrix answers in plain English how each campaign performed, how many calls were abandoned and what the abandonment rate was, without opening the reporting console. Each user sees only what their role allows. Meet the data agent at Metrix.
Can the agent follow up with US customers on WhatsApp?
Can the agent follow up with US customers on WhatsApp?
Yes, when the customer is on WhatsApp, which 32% of US adults use (Pew Research Center, 2025). Meta doesn't deliver WhatsApp marketing templates to US phone numbers (Meta); the rule covers marketing templates, not replies in a conversation the customer starts. So for US numbers the dropped-call follow-up goes by SMS by default, and WhatsApp takes over when the customer writes to you there or has a number outside the US. More in the WhatsApp integration.
