Integrate Docusign with AI agentsfrom approved quote to signed agreement
Vantegrate's AI agents connect to Docusign through the eSignature REST API with OAuth 2.0: they build the agreement from your template with the approved quote's data and get the signing link to your customer by email, text or WhatsApp. Docusign Connect events keep the agent up to date, and your Salesforce opportunity moves forward once the envelope is completed.
How the data flows
What does it mean to integrate Docusign with Vantegrate's AI agents?
Integrating Docusign with Vantegrate's AI agents means the agreement goes out from the same conversation where the deal was closed. Through the eSignature API, the agent builds it from your template with the approved quote's data, gets the signing link to the customer, tracks the envelope and, once it is completed, updates the opportunity in Salesforce or your CRM.
That's different from emailing a PDF and waiting. The agent hears about every change through Docusign Connect events and acts on it: it sends a reminder, alerts the sales rep or closes the stage. The signed document and its audit trail stay in your Docusign account, and your CRM gets the status and the data you define.

What moves between Docusign, the agent and your CRM
The agent works on the eSignature API in both directions: it creates the envelope with the deal's data and receives every status change through Docusign Connect.
Agreements from your templates
The agent creates the envelope from your Docusign template and fills in its fields with the approved quote's data: customer, products, prices and terms.
Every signature status, as it happens
Docusign Connect sends a webhook when the envelope is sent, opened, signed, declined or expires, and the agent acts on it: it reminds the signer, alerts the rep or updates the CRM.
Signed agreements turned into data
Once the envelope is completed, the agent downloads the signed PDF and the Certificate of Completion, and Arconte extracts the key terms (parties, amounts, terms and renewal dates) for your CRM or ERP.
How the integration works, step by step
Vantegrate handles the setup and rollout. Your team authorizes, validates and starts using it.
Connection through the eSignature API
We register an integration key in your account and authenticate with JWT Grant, Docusign's OAuth 2.0 flow for service integrations, with RSA keys and a dedicated sender user.
Consent and least privilege
The sender user, or an administrator from Docusign Admin, grants consent once for the signature and impersonation scopes, and you can revoke it at any time.
Templates, rules and channels
We map each template to your Salesforce fields and define which quotes become agreements on their own, which ones a rep reviews, which channel delivers the signing link and how often to remind.
Validation with real data
We test in Docusign's demo environment with real agreements, validate with your sales and legal teams, go to production through Docusign's Go-Live process and roll out in phases.
How a Docusign signing link reaches the customer's phone
There are two ways to do it, and both end in the same Docusign signature. The first is Docusign's own WhatsApp delivery: the signer gets the notification with the link to the agreement on WhatsApp, from Docusign's verified business account. According to Docusign, agreements delivered this way are signed nearly seven times faster than by email, and more than half are completed in 15 minutes or less (Docusign, 2023).
That delivery is part of Multi-Channel Delivery, an eSignature add-on that also covers text messages and depends on your plan: the account needs the WhatsApp permission and the integration key has to be enabled for it (Docusign Developers). With that in place, the agent requests it when it sends the envelope.
The second way runs through your own number: if the customer is already chatting with the agent, the signature arrives in that same conversation. The agent creates the envelope with embedded signing and shares a link of its own that, when tapped, asks Docusign for a fresh signing session, because the one the API returns expires after five minutes (Docusign).
Either way, the follow-up belongs to the agent: within the 24-hour window it sends reminders in the conversation, and after that it uses a Meta-approved template.
| Dimension | Docusign WhatsApp delivery | Agent link in your conversation |
|---|---|---|
| Who messages the customer | Docusign, from its verified account | Your number, in the conversation with the agent |
| What you need in Docusign | The Multi-Channel Delivery add-on | Embedded signing through the API |
| Sales context | A separate notification, without the earlier conversation | The chat where the quote was sent and questions answered |
| Record | Connect events and the Certificate of Completion | The same, plus the conversation in your CRM |
Signer identity: with embedded signing, the sender decides how the signer is verified: an access code, an SMS or phone code, or ID verification with a government ID.
Docusign for Salesforce, IAM and the MCP server: where the agent fits
If your team already sends from Salesforce with Docusign eSignature for Salesforce, the AppExchange package that sends, tracks and saves agreements (AppExchange), the agent doesn't replace it: it works in the same account with the same templates, and before we start we agree on which system writes what.
Docusign has its own AI agents as well, inside its IAM (Intelligent Agreement Management) platform, which check agreements against company standards and track obligations (Docusign, 2026). They work on the agreement; Sellium works on the customer conversation and the opportunity.
Docusign also publishes its own MCP server, announced as generally available to any agent (Docusign, 2026). Its official connectors link each person's account to assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Slack; for production accounts, Docusign recommends those connectors over a custom one, and tools such as Workflow Builder require an IAM subscription (Docusign Developers). That is why an agent that runs your sales process, with business rules and least-privilege access, works on the eSignature REST API with service credentials.
Docusign in the US: ESIGN, UETA and the channel your signers use
In the US, electronic signatures are recognized under the federal ESIGN Act and the state versions of UETA, enacted by 49 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, with a similar law in New York. A signature can't be denied legal effect solely because it is electronic, although if it is challenged, the party enforcing it has to show, among other things, that the signer intended to sign (Docusign).
The channel matters as much as the law. WhatsApp reaches 32% of US adults (Pew Research Center, 2025) and 56% of Hispanic adults (Pew Research Center), so most US signers still get the link by email or text, and WhatsApp serves the customers who already message you there. Sellium handles both SMS and WhatsApp, so the agent follows up on the channel where each customer actually answers (SMS integration).
Access is the other half. In Okta's Businesses at Work report, 58% of organizations name AI governance and identity and access management as their top concern (Okta). Docusign notes that JWT impersonation can involve a high degree of granted trust (Docusign Developers), which is why the agent sends as one dedicated user with only the scopes it needs, and your admins can revoke its consent at any time.

An agent connected to your Docusign vs. a standalone tool
| Standalone AI tool | Agent connected to your Docusign | |
|---|---|---|
| Data source | An agreement built by hand, with copied data | Your Docusign template with the deal's live data |
| Where your data lives | In a third-party system | In your Docusign account and your CRM |
| Result of each signature | A loose PDF in someone's inbox | The completed envelope in Docusign and an up-to-date opportunity in your CRM |
| Permissions and audit | Broad and hard to audit | OAuth consent, least privilege and an audit trail |
| Reaching production | Often stalls as a pilot | Validated, phased rollout |

The principle is simple: AI comes to your data, not your data to the AI. The agent works in your Docusign account through the official API, with the consent you grant.
- Connection through the eSignature REST API with OAuth 2.0: JWT Grant for an agent that works without a user present, or Authorization Code Grant if each rep sends from their own account.
- Least privilege: one dedicated sender user, the signature and impersonation scopes and only the templates you enable; consent can be revoked from Docusign.
- Agreements, their Certificate of Completion and the audit trail stay in your Docusign account, and every action the agent takes is logged. Docusign operates under ISO 27001 and with SOC 2 Type 2 reports (Docusign's certifications).
- The agents run on Salesforce or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, whose SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certifications belong to those platforms, not to Vantegrate or Docusign.
Frequently asked questions about the Docusign integration
What sales, legal and IT teams usually ask before connecting an AI agent to their Docusign account.
How do I integrate Docusign with an AI agent?
How do I integrate Docusign with an AI agent?
Through a connection to Docusign's eSignature REST API. The agent authenticates with OAuth 2.0 (JWT Grant, with a dedicated sender user), creates envelopes from your templates with the quote's data and receives every status change through Docusign Connect, with HMAC-validated messages. Vantegrate configures everything and your team authorizes and validates. See how the agent quotes in automated WhatsApp quotes.
Is an agreement signed from a WhatsApp or text link legally binding?
Is an agreement signed from a WhatsApp or text link legally binding?
It has the same standing as any Docusign signature: the signing happens in Docusign and the message only carries the link. In the US, the ESIGN Act and the state versions of UETA give electronic signatures legal effect (Docusign). In Latin America it depends on the country and the document: Argentina distinguishes electronic signatures from certificate-based digital signatures (Docusign), and in Mexico, signing electronically is not advisable for a contract that will be filed with a government agency (Docusign). Your legal team decides.
What if we already use Docusign for Salesforce?
What if we already use Docusign for Salesforce?
It keeps working as it does. Docusign eSignature for Salesforce sends, tracks and saves agreements from Salesforce, and the agent works in the same account with the same templates. Before we start we agree on which system writes what so no record gets duplicated: the package keeps its records and the agent moves the opportunity stage. More in the Salesforce integration.
What happens if the customer doesn't sign?
What happens if the customer doesn't sign?
The agent finds out without polling: Docusign allows one status check per envelope every 15 minutes, so it listens to Connect events. If the customer opens the envelope and doesn't sign, it sends a reminder; if they decline, it asks why and alerts the rep with the context; if the envelope expires, the agent offers to send a new one. The cadence is covered in WhatsApp quote follow-up.
Can Docusign send signing links by text to US customers?
Can Docusign send signing links by text to US customers?
Yes, through its multi-channel delivery, which covers text messages and WhatsApp. On Docusign's US pricing page, text delivery can be added to Standard and Business Pro plans, and multi-channel delivery with WhatsApp is listed with the Enhanced plans, sold through Docusign's sales team (Docusign). If your plan doesn't include it, the agent can still share the signing link in its own text conversation with the customer (see the SMS integration).
