Integrate Intercom with AI agentsthat answer on WhatsApp using your conversations
Vantegrate's AI agents connect to your workspace through the official Intercom API: they read and write your contacts, conversations and tickets, answer and qualify leads on WhatsApp, and log every chat in the contact's own thread. Your data stays in your Intercom.
How the data flows
What does it mean to integrate Intercom with Vantegrate's AI agents?
Integrating Intercom with Vantegrate's AI agents means that an agent, such as the sales agent on WhatsApp, connects to your workspace through the official Intercom REST API and works with your real data: it reads and updates contacts, reads and creates conversations, opens tickets and enriches attributes. The connection uses an access token from your workspace (or OAuth) and Intercom's webhooks, with limited permissions.
That is different from a bot with fixed scripts that lives outside your help desk. Intercom includes Fin, its own AI agent, and connects WhatsApp to its Inbox, but you can run the sales logic and the outbound channel with Vantegrate's agent on the same account. The agent checks the current data in your workspace and logs every interaction where it belongs. Your contact and conversation data stays in your Intercom: the agent reads and updates it, it doesn't take it anywhere.

What data moves between Vantegrate and your Intercom
The agent works on Intercom's objects in real time: it reads your contacts and conversations to answer, and logs every lead, attribute and ticket where it belongs, in the contact's own thread.
Contacts, conversations and tickets
The agent creates and updates contacts (users or leads) and companies, reads conversations and adds new ones, and opens tickets with their Ticket Type, tied to the right contact.
Attributes and thread continuity
What the customer says on WhatsApp enriches the contact's Data Attributes and stays in the same Intercom conversation, so your team picks up with the full context.
Real-time events
With Intercom webhooks, a new conversation or a customer reply triggers the agent instantly, and when needed the conversation is assigned to a human team or teammate.
How the integration works, step by step
Vantegrate handles the setup and rollout. Your team authorizes, validates and starts using it.
Connection through the official API
We connect to the Intercom REST API with your workspace's access token (or OAuth for apps that serve several workspaces). No scrapers and no fragile bridges.
Objects and attributes
We define which contacts, conversations, tickets and Data Attributes the agent uses to answer, qualify and log every interaction.
Webhooks and the WhatsApp channel
We set up the webhooks that trigger the agent's workflows and the WhatsApp channel it runs next to your Intercom Inbox.
Validation with real data
We test with your workspace and your real chats, validate with your support and IT teams, and roll out in phases.
A WhatsApp agent that builds on your Intercom
Intercom already includes Fin, its AI agent that takes in your support content and resolves questions in the chat, and Copilot, the assistant that helps your human agents inside the Inbox. What Vantegrate adds is an agent that sells and serves customers on WhatsApp with your business's own sales logic, using the same contacts and conversations in your workspace as its source.
The difference shows in every lead: the agent understands what the customer wants, asks the qualification questions that are still missing, enriches the contact, opens the ticket if the case escalates and logs everything in the Intercom thread. It works with live data from your account, so nothing is left without follow-up outside the help desk.
| Dimension | Intercom's Fin / Copilot | Vantegrate's agent on Intercom |
|---|---|---|
| What it's for | Resolves support in the chat | Sells and qualifies on WhatsApp |
| Connection | Native to the workspace | Intercom REST API and webhooks |
| Logic | Your support content | Your business's sales logic |
| Outbound channel | Depends on your channel plan | WhatsApp with prefill and follow-up |
| Logging | In the conversation | Contact, attributes and ticket in your Intercom |
Comparison of patterns; the exact scope is defined with your team based on your workspace and your plan. Fin and Copilot are separate Intercom products.
Your data stays in your workspace: the agent reads and updates your Intercom through the API; it doesn't take your database anywhere else. The connection uses the token you authorize, and every operation is logged and auditable.

An agent connected to your Intercom vs. a standalone tool
| Standalone AI tool | Agent connected to your Intercom | |
|---|---|---|
| Data source | A copy that drifts | Your source of truth, live |
| Where your data lives | In a third-party system | In your environment, encrypted end to end |
| Result of each operation | Stuck in another app | Written back to your Intercom |
| Permissions and audit | Broad and hard to audit | Least-privilege scope and an audit trail |
| Reaching production | Often stalls as a pilot | Validated, phased rollout |

Which agents run on your Intercom
Every product in the suite uses the same integration through the official API: it works with your workspace's data in real time and logs the result where it belongs.
Sellium
Sales agent on WhatsApp: answers, qualifies and quotes with your workspace's data, enriches the contact and logs every conversation in the Intercom thread.
Explore SelliumRevio
Marketing and win-back agent: uses the segments already in your Intercom to re-engage contacts, and runs the outreach on WhatsApp for customers who reply there, such as those in markets where WhatsApp is the default channel.
Explore RevioThe integration doesn't take your data anywhere
The principle is simple: AI comes to your data, not your data to the AI. The agent reads and updates your Intercom through the official API, with a limited token, and the agents run on certified cloud infrastructure.
- Connection through the official Intercom REST API, with your workspace's access token (or OAuth for multi-workspace apps), with no scrapers and no fragile bridges.
- The agent reads and updates your contacts, conversations and tickets; your database stays in your Intercom workspace.
- Signed (HMAC) and verified webhooks, with least-privilege permissions and traceability of every operation.
- The agents run on Salesforce or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, whose SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certifications belong to those platforms, not to Vantegrate or Intercom.
Frequently asked questions about the Intercom integration
What support and IT teams usually ask before connecting an AI agent to their workspace.
How do I integrate Intercom with an AI agent?
How do I integrate Intercom with an AI agent?
Through a connection to the official Intercom REST API and its webhooks. The agent reads and writes your contacts, conversations and tickets, answers and qualifies leads on WhatsApp, enriches the contact's attributes and logs every chat in the same thread. Vantegrate handles the setup and rollout; your team authorizes the connection, validates and starts using it. Learn about the sales agent in Sellium.
Does it replace Fin, Intercom's AI agent?
Does it replace Fin, Intercom's AI agent?
No, it complements it. Fin resolves support questions in the chat with your help content, and Copilot assists your human agents in the Inbox: both are Intercom products. Vantegrate's agent adds the layer of sales and qualification on WhatsApp with your business's sales logic, on the same contacts and conversations in your workspace.
What do I need to integrate Intercom: a token or OAuth?
What do I need to integrate Intercom: a token or OAuth?
It depends on the scope. For your own workspace, an access token (private app) is enough, and you get it when you create the app in Intercom's Developer Hub. If a public app accesses data in other workspaces, it goes through OAuth 2.0. One detail of Intercom's implementation: its OAuth doesn't use refresh tokens, so the access token stays valid until access is revoked.
Does my contact and conversation data leave Intercom?
Does my contact and conversation data leave Intercom?
The agent reads and updates your workspace through the API; it doesn't copy your database anywhere else. Your contacts, conversations and tickets stay in your Intercom, access uses a limited token and least-privilege permissions, and every operation is logged. The principle is that AI comes to your data, not your data to the AI.
