Integrate UPS with AI agentsthat answer where every order is

Vantegrate's AI agents connect to your UPS account through the official UPS Developer Portal APIs, with OAuth 2.0: they quote, create the label, validate the address and receive every tracking event without constant polling. With that data, they tell your customers where their order is, on WhatsApp or SMS.

The short answer

What does it mean to integrate UPS with Vantegrate's AI agents?

Integrating UPS with Vantegrate's AI agents means Trazzo and Sellium work on your UPS account through its official APIs: they quote rates and transit times, create the shipment with its label and subscribe to tracking for every package. When UPS logs an event, the agent tells the customer and answers their questions with that data.

That's different from sending a tracking link and hoping the customer opens it. The agent knows whether the package is out for delivery, hit an exception or was delivered, and says so in the conversation where the customer asks. Your shipments stay in your UPS account: the agent uses your app's credentials from the UPS portal and doesn't take your data anywhere else.

Hi, I want to integrate UPS with AI agents.
What syncs

What data moves between Vantegrate and your UPS account

The agent uses the UPS APIs each task calls for: it checks some of them on demand, and tracking arrives on its own by webhook, with no constant polling.

Rates, transit times and addresses

With the Rating API, the agent compares rates and transit times across UPS services between the order's origin and destination. Before creating the label, it validates the address with Address Validation, which covers the US and Puerto Rico.

Shipments, labels and returns

With the Shipping API, it creates the shipment and its label, as an image or in a thermal printer format (ZPL, EPL or SPL), recovers it if it's lost and voids the shipment if the order is canceled. It also creates the return label, printed or electronic.

Tracking that comes to you

With Track Alert, the agent subscribes to tracking numbers and UPS sends it every event: in transit, out for delivery, exception or delivered, with the delivery window and photo when available. The Tracking API adds proof of delivery with signature.

How it connects

How the integration works, step by step

Vantegrate handles the setup and rollout. Your team authorizes, validates and starts using it.

1

An app on the UPS portal

Your team creates an app on the UPS Developer Portal, tied to your account number, and gets its Client ID and Client Secret. The agent uses them to request the OAuth 2.0 token that goes with every call. If a third party's app does the work, UPS offers the authorization code flow, where you sign in with your own UPS login.

2

What the agent can do

We define with your team which APIs the agent uses and under what rules: which services it quotes, who approves a label, when a return is created and which delivery changes are offered to the customer.

3

Track Alert webhook and your systems

We set up the endpoint that receives Track Alert events, with the webhook credentials configured in the UPS portal, and map where each status lands: the order in your store or ERP, the contact in your CRM.

4

Test first, then production

We test in UPS's Customer Integration Environment, validate with your operations and customer service teams, and move to production in phases.

Where is my order

From a UPS event to an answer on WhatsApp or SMS

The answer to "where is my order?" lives in UPS: the package shipped, is out for delivery, hit an exception or was delivered. If someone has to log into the portal and copy the status by hand, the customer waits and your team loses time. With Track Alert, UPS pushes every event as it happens, so no one has to keep checking (UPS).

With the agent connected, Sellium receives that event and messages the customer in the conversation: the package is out for delivery and arrives within the window UPS reports, or something went wrong and someone on your team is already on it. If the customer asks before the alert, the agent checks the Tracking API and answers with the current status. UPS sends events in English, and the agent replies in the customer's language, Spanish included.

UPS keeps tracking details for 120 days (UPS). That's why the agent logs every status in your store, ERP or CRM, so the order history is still there when someone looks it up months later.

UPS's own notifications keep working: when the shipment is created through the API, UPS can send its own ship, exception and delivery notifications to the email addresses you specify, such as the recipient's. The agent doesn't replace them: it adds the answer in the channel where your customer already talks to you.

Delivery changes

When the customer won't be home: Delivery Intercept and returns

With the Delivery Intercept API, the shipper can change or cancel a shipment before delivery: send it to another address, hold it at a UPS facility for pickup, request a new delivery date or return it to the sender (UPS). Before the request, the API says which options that package allows and what each one costs.

The agent can take that request in the conversation: it confirms the shipment's options, shares the cost and, based on the rules you set, submits it or hands the full case to your team. Returns work the same way: the Shipping API creates the return label and the agent starts the return when your policy allows it.

If you ship with Ground Saver: in its annual report, UPS says it agreed with the US Postal Service (USPS) to handle final-mile delivery for part of its Ground Saver volume, the residential service formerly called UPS SurePost (UPS). During discovery we review which services you use, so the agent doesn't overpromise when a customer asks who's bringing the package.

Working alongside UPS's MCP server

UPS's MCP server and where a Vantegrate agent fits

UPS publishes an MCP server on its GitHub account, still in active development: a developer runs it locally with their app's Client ID and Client Secret, and their AI assistant can track a package or validate a US or Puerto Rico address (GitHub). The Tracking API documentation presents it as a way to speed up integration (UPS).

A Vantegrate agent works somewhere else: in the conversation with your customer, on WhatsApp, SMS or web chat, around the clock. It uses the same official APIs with your app's credentials and logs every lookup and operation. It doesn't replace the MCP server: it serves the customer asking about their order.

Key figures

Why connect an agent to your UPS shipments

Third-party figures, each with its published source, to size the UPS network, the channel and the customer service work. None of them is a Vantegrate result.

UPS's figure is the one the company reports to the SEC for its whole operation. Pew's measures US adults who say they use WhatsApp. Chatarmin's comes from 131 online stores that are its customers and, as the study notes, doesn't represent e-commerce as a whole: results depend on the setup and the mix of questions.

Your data, your shipments

The integration doesn't take your shipments anywhere

The principle is simple: AI comes to your data, not your data to the AI. The agent works on your UPS account through the official APIs, with the credentials of an app your team controls.

  • Connection through the UPS Developer Portal APIs with OAuth 2.0: the agent uses the Client ID and Client Secret of your own app, with no scrapers or manual uploads.
  • Track Alert events arrive at an endpoint authenticated with the webhook credentials configured in the UPS portal.
  • Your shipments and your customers' data stay in your UPS account and your systems; the agent looks up and logs what it needs and doesn't copy your data to another environment.
  • Operations that cost money, such as a label or a delivery change, follow the rules your team sets and are logged.
  • The agents run on Salesforce or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, whose SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certifications belong to those platforms, not to Vantegrate or UPS.
Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about the UPS integration

What operations and customer service teams usually ask before connecting an AI agent to their UPS shipments.

How does the agent connect to my UPS account?

Through the UPS Developer Portal APIs, with OAuth 2.0. Your team creates an app tied to your account number, and the agent uses its Client ID and Client Secret to request the token for each call. If the app belongs to a third party, UPS offers the authorization code flow, where you sign in with your own UPS login. We test in UPS's test environment first, then move to production. Learn about the logistics agent in Trazzo.

Can the agent send UPS tracking updates to US customers on WhatsApp?

Yes, with the right template. WhatsApp reaches 32% of US adults (Pew Research Center), so it works as one more channel next to SMS and email. Within the 24-hour window after the customer writes, the agent replies in the conversation; outside it, it uses an approved utility template, the category Meta sets aside for telling a customer their order is on its way with a tracking number (Meta). What doesn't reach US numbers is marketing templates (Meta).

Can the agent change a delivery or create a return?

It can take the request and, under your rules, carry it out. With Delivery Intercept, UPS lets the shipper reroute a shipment, hold it at a UPS facility, request a new date or return it to the sender before delivery, and the API first reports which options the package allows and what they cost (UPS). Returns go through the Shipping API, with a printed or electronic label. During discovery we decide what the agent handles on its own and what goes to your team.

What if I also ship with FedEx or DHL Express?

Each carrier connects through its own API and the agent uses them side by side: Trazzo can compare carriers, create the shipment with the right one and bring tracking into one place, and Sellium answers the same way no matter who delivers. Learn more in Trazzo.
