Integrate Telegram with AI agentsas one more channel next to WhatsApp

Vantegrate's AI agents live on WhatsApp and run your Telegram channel through the official Bot API: a bot created in BotFather answers, sells and hands off to the customer's thread. It's the same agent logic, also available where your customers already use Telegram. Your data stays in your systems.

The short answer

What does it mean to integrate Telegram with Vantegrate's AI agents?

Integrating Telegram with Vantegrate's AI agents means adding a Telegram bot as a channel of the same agent that already answers on WhatsApp. The bot, created with BotFather, receives messages through the Bot API (webhooks or long polling), answers them with the agent's logic and hands complex cases off to a person or to the WhatsApp thread. The connection uses the bot's token, not OAuth or an account API key.

That's different from a fixed-tree bot that lives on its own inside Telegram. Here the agent works with the same logic and the same data it uses on WhatsApp: it checks your information in real time, replies and logs every conversation. Your customer information stays in your systems: the bot reads and updates it but doesn't take it anywhere.

Hi, I want to integrate Telegram with AI agents.
What syncs

What moves between Vantegrate and your Telegram bot

The agent works on the standard objects of the Telegram Bot API in real time: it receives every message, replies with interactive buttons and hands the conversation off to the channel where the customer picks it up.

Messages and conversations

The bot receives every Update with its Message and its chat_id, the agent replies with sendMessage and logs the conversation in your system, without losing context.

Interactive buttons

The agent replies with inline buttons (InlineKeyboardButton) to quote, book or hand off in a single tap, and handles every CallbackQuery without the customer having to type a word.

Real-time events

With Bot API webhooks, Telegram sends a POST to your server for every message and triggers the agent's workflow right away, without anyone having to check by hand.

How it connects

How the integration works, step by step

Vantegrate handles the setup and the rollout. Your team validates the result and starts using it.

1

Bot created in BotFather

You create the bot in BotFather (or have us create it for you) and get its token. That token, not OAuth or an account API key, is what connects the bot to the agent.

2

Webhook through the Bot API

We set up the webhook (setWebhook) over HTTPS so Telegram delivers every Update to your server, secured with a secret_token. During development we use long polling instead.

3

The agent's logic

The agent that already answers on WhatsApp also replies on Telegram with the same logic: it answers questions, quotes with inline buttons and hands off the complex cases.

4

Validation with real cases

We test with real conversations, define when it escalates to a person or to the WhatsApp thread, and roll it out in phases.

An agent, not a fixed tree

An agent on the Bot API versus a fixed-tree bot

Not every Telegram bot is the same. A fixed-tree bot follows a closed menu of options: if the customer writes anything outside the script, it doesn't understand and ends up handing everything off to a person. The AI agent works on the Bot API with the same logic it uses on WhatsApp, understands what the customer wants and decides what to do with each conversation.

You notice the difference in every message: the agent replies with inline buttons so the customer can resolve things in one tap, checks your current data before answering and only escalates when the case calls for it. The rest of the time it resolves the request and logs it, so Telegram adds reach without adding manual work for your team.

Comparison of patterns; the exact scope is defined with your team based on how you operate.

It's the Bot API, not MTProto: the bot runs a bot account through the official Bot API (a BotFather token), not user accounts or arbitrary chats. The connection uses HTTPS and is logged and auditable.

Your data, your systems

The integration doesn't take your data anywhere

The principle is simple: AI comes to your data, not your data to the AI. The bot receives and answers messages through the official Bot API, with a token you control, and the agents run on certified cloud infrastructure.

  • Connection through the official Telegram Bot API with the BotFather token, with no account OAuth and no scrapers.
  • Webhooks over HTTPS with an optional secret_token; the bot runs a bot account, not user accounts.
  • The agents run on Salesforce or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, whose SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certifications belong to those platforms, not to Vantegrate or Telegram.
  • Access with least-privilege permissions and traceability of every operation.
Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about the Telegram integration

What teams usually ask before adding Telegram as a channel of their AI agent.

How do I integrate Telegram with an AI agent?

With a Telegram bot created in BotFather and connected through the Bot API. The bot receives messages (through webhooks or long polling), and the agent that already answers on WhatsApp replies with the same logic, uses inline buttons and hands off complex cases. Vantegrate handles the setup and rollout; your team validates and starts using it. Learn about the sales agent in Sellium.

Do I need an API key, or do I use OAuth for the bot?

Neither: the Bot API connects with a bot token generated by BotFather (the official account inside Telegram). There's no OAuth and no account API key. That token, which you control, is what authorizes the bot to receive and send messages.

Does the bot use webhooks or long polling?

Both options exist in the Bot API, and they are mutually exclusive. In production, the bot uses a webhook (setWebhook over HTTPS): Telegram sends a POST to your server for every event. For development and testing, long polling (getUpdates) is used instead, and your server asks for the updates. You can't use getUpdates while a webhook is active.

Can the bot manage user accounts or read other chats?

No. The Bot API only runs bot accounts: it receives the messages sent to the bot and replies, nothing more. Managing user accounts or reading arbitrary chats requires MTProto (the API behind Telegram's own apps), which is out of scope for a bot integration. To serve customers, the Bot API is the right choice.
