Meta Business Verification (also called business verification or company verification) is the process through which an organization proves to Meta that it is a real, legitimate legal entity. It is done from the Security Center in Business Manager (part of Meta Business Suite), by entering the legal name, the address, a phone number and documentation that backs up that data, such as the tax registration certificate, a utility bill in the company's name or a bank statement. Meta checks what you declared against public records and against the documents, and approves or rejects the request.
Where it matters most is the WhatsApp Business Platform. An unverified account can test the API, but it is stuck with a low messaging cap and cannot register all its numbers or access restricted features. Verifying the business opens the path to scaling your messaging limits, adding more lines and, together with display name approval, applying for the official business account (the verified badge). That is why running Sellium at scale starts with having your business verified by Meta.
It is worth not confusing it with neighboring processes: business verification validates the organization, not a number or a name. It is different from WhatsApp display name approval, from the official account with the verified badge and from two-step verification (a security PIN for the number). In practice, business verification is the foundation that unlocks the others.
Meta Business Verification is, at its core, a corporate identity check: Meta wants to confirm that behind an ad account or a WhatsApp number there is a real company with legal existence, not an invented identity. That check unlocks the most sensitive features of its platform, including those of the WhatsApp Business Platform, which is why it is one of the first steps in any serious messaging project at scale.
What documentation Meta asks for
The process is handled in the Security Center in Business Manager. Meta asks for company data and evidence to back it up. You will usually need:
- The exact legal name and address, as they appear in the country's official records.
- A company phone number that Meta can call or send a code to.
- A company-owned web domain whose email matches the business, because it helps validation go faster.
- Supporting documents, such as the tax registration certificate (in Argentina, the one issued by ARCA, formerly AFIP), articles of incorporation or a certificate of formation, a utility bill or a bank statement in the company's name.
The key is consistency: the name, address and phone number must match letter for letter between what you enter and what the documents say. The number one cause of rejection is a piece of data that does not match.
How it works, step by step
- Complete Business Manager: enter the company's legal name, address and phone number before requesting verification.
- Start verification in the Security Center: Meta shows the status (unverified, pending, verified) and asks for the documentation.
- Upload the documents and confirm the contact details: Meta may ask you to validate the phone number or the domain with a code.
- Wait for the review: Meta checks what you declared against public records and the documents. The answer can take anywhere from minutes to several days.
- Fix and retry if needed: if Meta rejects the request, it gives the reason (an inconsistent detail, an illegible document) and you can resubmit.
Why it matters for WhatsApp
This is where verification stops being an administrative formality and becomes a business enabler. Without verification, a WhatsApp Business Platform number usually stays at a low messaging cap, on the order of 250 new recipients per day, and you cannot register all your lines. With the business verified, and while keeping good account quality, the number scales automatically through tiers: the usual steps are 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000 new recipients every 24 hours, up to operating without a cap. Verification is also a prerequisite for applying for the official business account with the verified badge. Running Sellium on WhatsApp at real volume starts with this step.
Differences from neighboring terms
Many teams mix up four things that are different, and it helps to keep them apart:
| Process | What it validates | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Business verification | That the organization exists legally | Unlocking limits and restricted features |
| Display name approval | That the name the user sees complies with the policies | Showing the trade name in the chat |
| Official account (verified badge) | The brand's reputation and notability | The official account checkmark |
| Two-step verification | Control of the number with a PIN | Security of the line, not identity |
Business verification is the foundation: without it, the others do not move forward.
Common mistakes
- Data that does not match: the legal name in Business Manager differs from the one on the documents. It is the most frequent rejection and the easiest to avoid.
- Expired or illegible documents: a blurry photo or an old statement sinks the request.
- No company domain: using only a free email address strips the process of legitimacy signals.
- Leaving it for the end: starting verification only when you already need to send volume. Since the review can take days, do it at the start of the project, not right before the launch date.
Verify before you scale
A small services company in Córdoba wants to launch WhatsApp customer service for 5,000 customers. When it connects the API, it finds that, without verification, it can only start conversations with 250 new recipients per day. Before the launch date it verifies the business in Business Manager with its ARCA registration certificate and its own domain. With verification approved, the number starts moving up the tiers and stops hitting the cap.
A rejection over data that does not match
A wholesaler enters its trade name in Business Manager instead of its registered legal name. Meta rejects the verification because it does not match the tax documentation. The company corrects the legal name so it matches the articles of incorporation letter for letter, resubmits, and gets approved within a couple of days.

How is business verification different from the official account badge?
Business verification validates that the organization exists legally and unlocks limits and features. The official account, on the other hand, is the verified badge that Meta grants based on the brand's reputation and notability. They are separate processes: business verification is a prerequisite, but on its own it does not guarantee the badge.
